Our house is really taking shape and now has the first sign of some color. The facias and outside exposed beams have been stained a brown color to match the roof. The sheeting and felt material is on all the roof areas with the roofing maybe to happen this week. You can see the patio areas on each end of the house. On the kitchen/garage end of the house there is an open BBQ area and we hope to plumb the BBQ to a large tank that will also service the gas fireplace. (No more running to town to get a tank filled.) On our bedroom end of the house is a sitting area and will someday include a hot tub.
All of the framing now appears to be complete and the interior of the house has taken shape. We may have actually over planned for bookcases which will be great. Some place to put all of the books plus the curios that we have collected in our travels.
Because we are not the ones having to do the work we love just going up to the house and "putzing" around. Will head there once we are done with this. Can't wait to be in and have you visit.

Great Progress!

In the last week, since the snow melted, we've seen such wonderful changes in the house. It's really taking shape and we love it. The paper under the metal roof is being layed down on the back half of the house. The most exciting thing is rafters over the living area so we could really see what the main living area of the house will look like. The second picture is taken from the living room looking towards the kitchen. What great windows at my kitchen sink to view beautiful trees...Thanks to Dad for those beautiful trees. The bottom picture is looking into the living room area windows. We mentioned before we wanted to bring the outdoors in....Ian did a great job!

We're busy picking out roof color, siding color and trim color. So many choices and decisions and for the most part we're loving it.

Last Exterior Walls

A mile stone day! The last of the exterior walls are up. You will notice by the darkness of the pictures that it's still raining, but we now know the feel of the dimensions of the house.
When we asked Ian to design the house so that it didn't take away from the feeling we had when we were up there in the woods, we had no idea that he would be able to make it feel like we were living "in" the woods. He has done an unbelievable job of doing just that. Now we can see what we will see out of the kitchen and the living room.
The pictures show Peggy standing in the kitchen, a shot the other direction through the dining room to the living room end and side walls, and a picture looking down the gallery past our bedroom.. The living room side wall will have windows almost to the ground and you can see that there are windows yet to be cut out above the windows that are obvious.
The kitchen sink will be in front of where Peg is standing and there will be kitchen cabinets all under the windows and around to cover the wall behind her. May make doing dishes a little more fun. (Or not.)
The ends of the gallery will have a 4' clear glass door that will lead outside and the big window above it is not fully cut out at this time.
The guys have the 2" x 12" there for the rafters on the second half so maybe by the end of next week it will all be framed in and we can start drying it out.
We are so thrilled with how the house is taking shape. Have a great day. We are.

Whew, the snow is melting!

The snow is finally melting. For quite a few days it was impossible to even get to the house or for others in the area to get out. Luckily it doesn't happen real often. Ron and I shoveled wet snow in part of the open area. That was a big job.

Ron and Eric Amerson have been working hard this week making up for lost days. Yesterday we saw the front wall of the house framed, laying on the living area floor, and ready to be stood up. We're excited for that wall to go up. The picture back towards the gallery shows a big beam across the top. That is an open area by the dining room looking back towards the gallery and bookshelves. It will all make more sense as time goes on.

Happy New Year from the Gelbrichs!
